Smorgasburg is one of the most exciting food events happening every weekend in the city. With over 70 vendors serving everything from international street food to fusion snacks and desserts, it’s more than just a market—it’s a full-on food experience. Smorgasburg is the largest weekly open-air food market in America with more than 2 million yearly customers in New York, Los Angeles and Miami.Whether you’re stopping by with friends, bringing family, or just hungry and curious, every corner of Smorgasburg offers something totally unique yet equally delicious.
There are three locations in New York, each with its own vibe. Fridays are at the World Trade Center, right by the Oculus. It’s a popular spot for people working in the area or tourists checking out downtown. Saturdays in Williamsburg are the most prevalent and packed. Right along the East River at Marsha P. Johnson State Park, it’s complete with vendors, music, and one of the best skyline views in the city. Sundays are a bit more laid-back at Prospect Park on Breeze Hill. It’s surrounded by nature and seating areas, perfect for grabbing a plate and chilling on the lawn.
What makes Smorgasburg stand out is the amount of variety accessible in so little time and so little space. One minute you’re eating Salvadoran pupusas, then you’re trying Korean fried cheese sticks, then maybe a Dominican empanada or a Thai rolled ice cream. There are also plenty of vegan, halal, gluten-free, and dessert options. Even the drinks are creative, with fresh fruit lemonades, boba teas, and even non-alcoholic cocktails.
The best part is that many vendors are small, family-run businesses. Some recipes come straight from home kitchens, others are modern twists on traditional recipes. It’s not just about tasting different cultures—it’s about meeting the people and history behind the food and understanding the value of different cultures. You can literally walk from booth to booth and go on a mini world tour, all in one afternoon.
Smorgasburg isn't just a place to eat—it's a place to connect. People strike up conversations while waiting in line, share bites on picnic tables, or recommend their favorite stands to strangers. It feels like a community built around food, and everyone’s invited.
If you’re into trying new things, supporting local businesses, or just looking for a fun day out, Smorgasburg should definitely be on your list.
